Just sent off my #bookrecommendations for this year’s WarOnTheRocks holiday reading list. One of my favourite things to do every year!
(And my recommendations this year are *great*!)
While I wont spoil what I recommended this year, here are a few recommendations from the past years that I still love:
Annalee Newitz “The future of another timeline”. Such a great take on time travel and - unfortunately- today even more timely than when it came out.
#scifi
I love all of the Culture series* by Iain M Bank but this is my favourite.
*the books in the series are only loosely connected so you don’t have to read them all.

Completely different genre, but if you want to understand Silicon Valley and the beginning of #SurveillanceCapitalism better, this book by Anna Wiener is for you.
John Lanchester’s The Wall is just brilliant and ever more important given the current discussions around generational responsibility, #lastgeneration and all that. Plus military tactics.
(Careful: dystopian)
Such a great series. I must admit that I am struggling a bit with the latest because Ada Palmer is just crazy clever and these books are very complex but just sooo good.

Tim Maughan’s Infinite Detail is the go to for ever not so convinced by #smartcities.
#scifi
Anyway, these are all great, and if you want to know more, I recommended them in more detail in the holiday and summer reading lists that WarOnTheRocks has put together over the years (which is incidentally where I take most recommendations from).
